I thought about starting a separate Beer Blog, and maybe I still will. But for now, I thought I'd report my thoughts on a new beer (for me). At Hannaford tonight to pick up a few things while Emily was at Brownies, I saw 4-packs of Geary's Imperial IPA. I'm a big fan of double IPA's, and a big fan of Geary's, so this ended up in my cart before I knew what was happening.
It poured a darker color than I expected, more brown than orange. Fine foam head that didn't stick around for very long. Big bready flavor that surrounded the tongue and lingered. Alcohol in the aftertaste, along with that big malt flavor. I will be looking for this beer on tap or on cask. This beer reminds me a lot of Geary's Hampshire Special, also one of my favorites. If you like Geary's Hampshire, you can always find it on tap at Norm's BBQ.
A note about Imperial IPA's, more commonly referred to as Double IPA. An American style of India Pale Ale characterized by higher amounts of malts, hops, and alcohol content. The term Imperial is homage to the Russian Imperial Stout, which is actually an English stout brewed for the Russian court of Catherine II in the late 1700's. Imperial stouts are very strong stouts, so it makes sense that Imperial IPAs are very strong IPAs.
So, a little beer, a little history, and for $9.99 you too can be the proud owner of a 4-pack of 12-oz bottles of this fine Imperial IPA.

that sounds like it beats the beer Conkey gave me last weekend. Yuengling Lite (http://www.yuengling.com/). Tasted like tomato juice. But still tasted good on such a hot day.

I know they have Meantime IPA, and it was delicious. I'll have to look for the others.
Real nice, Lazyboy - You are just lucky I was out of PBR for the weekend. To defend myself, I got that Yuengling Lite from my parents who picked it up "sometime in 2008"... not that that makes it taste any better!!!
